CMI celebrates Fatima apparitions centenary with procession

Abp Wong places the crown on the statue’s head after the homily, CMI, 13 May 2017.

BUKIT PADANG – The Church of Mary Immaculate here celebrated the centenary of Fatima Apparitions with a Marian procession despite the inclement weather on 13 May 2017.

It was a heartwarming sight to see the faithful with their colourful umbrellas coming in procession from the grotto into the church before the Mass with flowerful girls throwing petals on the wet ground.

Archbishop John Wong presided at the Mass.  Joining him at the altar was Abp Emeritus John Lee.  The occasion was enlivened by the singing of the Chinese choir under the baton of Joe Shin.

The prelate crowned the statue of Our Lady of Fatima after the homily.

Preceding the procession was the rosary recitation followed by the Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Since May 14 (next day) was Mother’s Day, all the mothers present were invited up front to receive a special blessing from the presider before the dismissal.

A fellowship meal was served at the canteen after the Mass.

On the same day in Portugal, Pope Francis canonised Bl Francisco and Jacinta Marto, two of the three seers of Fatima.
