Tawau Filipino parishioners celebrate Feast of Sto Nino

procession

TAWAU – Some 800 Filipino parishioners of Holy Trinity here celebrated the Feast of Sto Nino (Infant Jesus) for the 18th time on 17 Jan 2016 with the theme Transform us by your mercy.  The image of the Infant Jesus is the symbol of hope and protection to them.

In his short address to those present, parish priest Msgr Nicholas Ong thanked the community for the effort to celebrate the event yearly in the past seventeen years.  He said, “I believe you have been through many challenges in your struggles to unite your community and to date, you have proven that with God’s grace everything is made possible.  Continue to serve one another and live in communion with other communities so that together we will live as one big family.”

The Mass began with a procession of the statue of the Infant Jesus from the entrance to the sanctuary.  Present at the concelebrated Mass were members of Filipino communities from St Mary Sandakan, St Peter Kunak, Sacred Heart Cathedral Kota Kinabalu and from the Persatuan Kababayan Sabah (PKS).

After Mass, all processed to the parish hall preceded by the Infant Jesus statue for the luncheon fellowship. – Julita Kantod
