Obituary: Fr Peter Ma

cs20140116_petermaKOTA KINABALU(CS/Fr Robert O’Neil mhm).- Fr Peter Ma, a Chinese national, was born in the village of Hoi Yin Toi Shaa, Kwong Tung, China in 1925.

His parents and grandparents were Catholics. His father was Joseph Wah Chun Ma and his mother, Mary Lui Aah Ying.

He has four brothers and two sisters. One older brother, Thomas, was a priest and was imprisoned for 15 years by the communists and only died six months ago at the age of 91. One sister, Ma Shi Him, still lives in China.

Fr Brian Coogan Celebrates 90th Birthday In Sabah

KOTA KINABALU(CS).- Fr Brian Coogan, who served in Sabah as a priest and teacher, will be back in Sabah to celebrate his 90th birthday with his ex-students and friends. He came to Sabah in 1957 and had served the various Catholic community throughout the State for a period of 9 years. He will arrive in Sabah Jan 22 and will leave Feb 20. During his stay in Kota Kinabalu, a birthday dinner will be held in his honour at the Grand Port View Restaurant Feb 6.

St Mary’s Faithful Welcomes 2014 By Putting God First

cs20140116_stmarySANDAKAN(CS).- St Mary’s Cathedral celebrated New Year (2014) Mass at 8.00 am on January 1st. The mass was well attended by parishioners and their families. January 1st coincides with the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, as well as a Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church.

“We thank the Lord for all the blessings we have received last year and may the Lord continue to guide, to bless and to be with us in our ups and downs throughout this new year”, said Fr Sunny Chung in his opening homily to the parishioners.

Fr Aloysius Tung Celebrates Diamond Jubilee

cs20140116_tungKOTA KINABALU(CS).- Fr Aloysius Tung, 86, celebrates his 60th priestly ordination with a Thanksgiving Mass at St Simon Church, Likas Dec 27 in the presence of all those beloved of him.

With him at the altar were Archbishop Emeritus John Lee, Archbishop John Wong, Fr Cosmas Lee, Fr Moses Lui, Fr Fundes Motiung, Fr Tony Mojiwat, Fr Thomas Madanan, Fr Jalius Sading and Fr Erik Jerome.

The celebration was all the more meaningful with Fr Tung being the main celebrant, ably assisted by Fr Cosmas Lee.
