SP Dontozidon organises fundraiser for Nagasiba church building project
PENAMPANG – St Paul Dontozidon here organised an inaugural fundraising dinner to kick start its efforts to raise funds for its new church at Kg Nagasiba on 19 March 2017.
Almost a thousand people including local and federal ministers turned up to support the project at a local restaurant in Likas.
In his speech, Archbishop John Wong thanked those present for their support and gave a brief background information on the relocation to Nagasiba from Dontozidon.
He said that the idea of relocation came about when the existing church (built in 1968) and its land size can no longer accommodate the needs of the increasing parishioners over the years.
He acknowledged that it is a “tough time” to raise funds nowadays but “if the new building is meant to worship and glorify God, we will have the necessary resources to complete it.”
Carfester J Mokujin, dinner organising chairman, in his turn, thanked the clergy, the donors and benefactors for their presence in support of the RM13m building project.
Among the highlights were the ribbon cutting ceremony by the sponsors and the presentation of mock cheques to Abp Wong by MCA Penampang Division (RM300,000.00), Datuk John Lim Pang Seng (RM100,000.00) and United Pasokmomogun (RM78,750.00).
A video clip on the existing church and the artist impression of the new church was screened interspersed with messages from Datuk Francis Goh, adviser of the building project, Datuk Donald P Mojuntin, and others.
Dato Lee Chee Leong, Deputy Finance Minister, spoke on behalf of Guest of Honour Dato Sri Liow Tiong Lai, Minister of Transport Malaysia and MCA president. He conveyed the latter’s greetings and apology for not being able to attend the function due to prior commitment.
