TAWAU –  The assistant priest of Holy Trinity Church Tawau spoke about the meaning of the Cross in the life of a Catholic during a youth Mass at St Jude Church Semporna on 3 Apr 2016 and urged them to understand it in their own lives.

It was in the context of the handing over of the Youth Cross from Lahad Datu to Tawau parish  with St Jude as the first station.

Fr Phillip Muji exhorted the 400 parishioners comprising the youth from St Jude, Holy Trinity Church, St Dominic Lahad Datu and St Peter Kunak, “Without the Cross, life would be meaningless.”   He explained that the Cross is a symbol of humility, faith, determination, ostrength and hope.

“As you go about with your daily life, you need time to understand your own ‘cross,’”  Fr Muji said.  He added that the need to recognise and to learn about the meaning of their personal cross in order to be prepared spiritually and mentally “to face the realities of youth in today’s environment, so that you may sustain your faithfulness in God.”

As of that day, the Youth Cross is about to reach its final destination, merely 60 days to the culminating event which will take place at Holy Trinity Church on June 6-10.

After its launching on 15 Feb 2015 at Holy Cross Toboh, Tambunan, the SYD-4 Cross or the Youth Cross has travelled across the arch/dioceses, visiting each parish in its churches and outstation chapels.

The main Organising Team in the arch/dioceses is also at its final stage of preparation for all the participants.

Two thousand  youth have registered for SYD-4, with outside participation from Dioceses of Sibu, Melaka-Johor and Brunei.

Before ending his homily, Fr Muji reiterated, “Dear young people, you are the pillar of the Church now and in the future. Learn to recognise your cross, lift it up and embrace it so that you may be prepared to face the situations of life around you.” Julita Kantod, SOCCOM Tawau/CS
