KOTA KINABALU – Some three hundred young people from trilingual youth groups or ministries of Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish here gathered for their first YoUnite for the year on 28 Feb 2016.  The youths were from the English-speaking LifeLIne, LifeTeen, Light of Jesus Christ Covenant Community and Young Adults; Mandarin-speaking Teens and Working Adults; and BM-speaking Efata.

According to the event coordinator, Aline Lim, the YoUnite was formed in 2015 with the objective to unite all the members of the different ministries so that together they can reach out to those youths who are not involved in any church activities.

The event started with an opening Mass presided by parish priest Abp John Wong.  It was concelebrated with his assistants: Frs Jeffri Gumu, Rhobby Mojolou and Abel Madisang.  They were joined by Fr Mitchelly Kiun who returned for a very short break from his language studies in Taiwan.  Deacon Joshua Liew assisted at the altar.

The Mass also kickstart the Year of Mercy among the youths.

After the Mass all adjourned to the canteen where dinner was prepared and served by Anita Tunggolou and her Women’s League members.

They all trooped up to the first floor of the parish centre where they had a night of fun,  ice-breakers, songs and a session by Deacon Liew.  It ended with a word of encouragement and blessing by the parish priest.
