KOTA KINABALU (CS) – Nov 14 saw 90 little grads donning gowns marched up the stage of the Putera Theatre Grand Ballroom to commence their annual kindergarten graduation, witnessed and accompanied by the proud smiles of parents and teachers.
Shan Tao Kindergarten School once again celebrated the young graduates who have completed Kindergarten and are ready to move into Primary One the following year with their annual Graduation and Concert Night. Besides celebrating the graduates from Watermelon, Cherry and Orange classes, 21 students were also given Excellent Awards.
KOTA KINABALU (CS) – The mission of the church, through the provision of education, is not only to help the young to have a solid academic foundation, but above all to build the moral character of the individual. To do that, there is a need to treat students as persons who are growing up, and who need to be properly nurtured in character, and in wisdom and knowledge.
Archbishop John Wong underscored this message at the 27th Annual Speech Night for SRS Datuk Simon Fung held in Dewan Tun Raffae, Menara Tun Mustapha Nov 18. He emphasized the need for every child to be treated with respect and love from an early age, in order that the child might do likewise to others as he grows older. For this reason, Archbishop John Wong regards the teaching staff not only as ‘teachers’ but also as ‘formators’.
KUCHING – The Archdiocese of Kuching rejoiced as Archbishop Emeritus Peter Chung celebrated his 60th anniversary of priestly ordination with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass on the evening of 26 Sep. More than two thousand parishioners thronged St Joseph’s Cathedral to thank the Lord for the gift of their shepherd, pastor and friend.
The Mass, which Archbishop Emeritus Chung presided, was concelebrated with 13 archbishops and bishops and 44 priests from all over Malaysia. Also present were a group of six delegates from China, who were the jubilarian’s relatives, led by Fr Peter Liu Xijun.
KOTA KINABALU (CS) – In his congratulatory message to the Sacred Heart Catholic Women’s League (SHCWL) who celebrated their 43rd year in the service of the Church, Archbishop John Wong acknowledged that 43 years is a not a ‘short time’ in terms of service. He accorded it as a true blessing from God to the SHCWL.
He also expressed his delight that SHCWL has considered the Eucharistic Celebration at the beginning of the event to be the appropriate acknowledgement of gratitude for God’s bountiful blessing on them as a Ministry, as well as for God to continue to pour out His blessings on those who believe in Him. Food, as in the dinner event, was an extension of that joy in the Lord.
KOTA KINABALU – There is a general consensus that many of the young people today seem to be confused with who they are and in discovering their purpose in life. And many times, we find our security in the comfort of the world, only to discover that these are temporal gain, only to find ourselves feeling trapped with the emptiness that fills us after indulging in worldly pleasures, and only to feel unsatisfied with the instant, temporary pleasures that we thought could mask our brokenness inside.
TANJUNG ARU – 21 students ‘graduated’ from the JWG Bible Class Oct 12. Most of them have been with the JWG since they were four years old until they reach the final year at 16.
What sustains them coming to Sunday School for 12 years every Sunday except during school break, is their joyful experience of encountering Jesus in their lessons and related activities, in their relationships with the teachers, and with their peers. It also speaks of their parents’ faithfulness in sending their children year in year out to make sure that their children grow up with their faith firm and well rooted.
