Splendour of Truth course aims to help the faithful understand their faith better
KOTA KINABALU – Some 200 people attended the Splendour of Truth Course organised by the Sacred Heart Cathedral LifeLine Youth Ministry on 23-24 April 2016.
The two-part course aims to help Catholics understand their faith better. Deacon Sherman Kuek ofs of Melaka-Johor Diocese tackled difficult questions about the Catholic Faith by explaining the historical, scriptural and theological bases for Catholic beliefs.
In this first part, Kuek dealt with the questions relating to the split in Christianity, Christian Crusades in the Middle Ages, Inquisition in the 16th century, Galileo Affair, Scripture, Tradition, Magisterium, Salvation, Indulgence and Purgatory.
It was rather enlightening for many of the participants who have had only basic catechism and no opportunity to study theology. The deacon and his team brought along their materials – course workbook, books, CDs, DVDs, charts – to supplement the talks.
Part II will be held on June 18-19 which will deal with questions relating to the Sacraments, papacy, ordained ministry and devotion to Mary and the Saints.
The deacon urged the participants to join him in making a pilgrimage through the SHC Door of Mercy and attending his biblical reflections on the mystery of mercy on May 19-21 at the same venue. This event will be organised by Biblical Ministry.
The participants were also invited to join in the pilgrimages organised by his team to the Holy Land and other places in the later part of the year.
