St Joseph, Spouse of Virgin Mary Kiulu inaugurated

IMG_8826KIULU – Since the announcement of the establishment of St Joseph Kiulu as a parish in Oct 2014, plans were afoot to inaugurate the new parish on the feast day of its patron, St Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary on March 19.

Archbishop John Wong presided at the Inaugural Mass, joined by 21 priests from the Archdiocese, including Fr Joseph Gapitang from Keningau Diocese. Fr Gapitang was one of the pioneering priests serving the people in Kiulu back in the 80’s.

Archbishop John Wong presided at the Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral here.  Joining him at the altar were Fr Wilfred Atin and Fr Rhobby Mojolou, and assisted by Deacon Abel Madisang.

118 youth ministers rally for 9th youth consultation

DSC_0451BUNDU TUHAN –  One hundred and eighteen Youth Ministers from all around the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu rallied together for a time of “CONSULTATION” at the Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre on 6-8 Mar 2015.  The Consultation hopes to involve youth leaders to discern a better approach in ministry towards current youth; to motivate them as Catholic Youth Ministers; and to rejuvenate the spirit of ministering in every youth minister.

KK Archdiocese to set up Mission Tadika in Parishes

Mission Tadika 3 cKOTA KINABALU – Parish priests of all parishes in the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu have been urged to set up Mission Tadika (Mission Kindergartens) in their respective parishes without further delay.

They are being encouraged to work closely with their Parish Pastoral Committees (PPC) to set up the Mission Tadika so as to ensure that the Catholic faith can be inculcated in the children as from a very young age.

retreatTANJUNG ARU – Twenty-three members of the Special Ministry of Stella Maris Church gathered for a retreat on the joy of serving God, guided by Fr Jeffri Gumu, at Pace Bene Retreat Centre, Purak, on 6-7 Feb 2015.

In his first apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), Pope Francis offers his sweeping vision of the Universal Church called to action. At the heart of this vision is a powerful invitation to all of us to embrace Christ’s love to spread the good news of the Gospel through the joy of serving His Church.

Fr Ambrose Atang grateful to God for 25 years priestly service

IMG_8070KOTA BELUD – Despite heavy rain, some 1,000 lay faithful gathered with joy and oneness of heart at the Thanksgiving Mass to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of the priestly ordination of Fr Ambrose Atang at St Edmund’s Church Feb 16. The Mass was presided by Fr Ambrose himself, and at the altar with him were Archbishop John Wong, Msgr Primus Jouil, Msgr Gilbert Engan, Fr Bruno Yasun, Fr Cosmas Lee, and 14 other priests from parishes around the Arch/dioceses of Kota Kinabalu and Keningau.

Catholic legal fraternity told: Practise law with mercy and love

RedMassPicKOTA KINABALU – The Catholic legal fraternity of Sabah had been reminded to practise their profession with mercy and love during the fourth annual Red Mass celebration held at the chapel of St Simon Catholic Church Likas on Feb 14.

In his address, Archbishop John Wong beckoned the crowd to be like God, an image of love – God shows “tremendous care and concern” despite humanity’s fall in the Garden of Eden as His mercy far surpasses the gravity of men’s wrongdoings.

1,141 catechumens elected to join Catholic Church

IMG_8236KOTA KINABALU (CS) – The Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu shared the joy of witnessing the election of 1,141 new catechumens at the liturgical rite of Election and Enrolment of Names at Sacred Heart Cathedral Feb 22, with a crowd of more than 2,000.  The elects hailed from 20 parishes in Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese, including Labuan, coming together with their godparents, and supported by their parish priest/assistant priest.
