Simplicity marks the tone of Fr Bruno’s silver jubilee celebration

The jubilarian and concelebrants walk down from the church to the parish hall to the accompaniment of traditional gong beating.

KIULU – Simplicity marked the tone of Father Bruno Yasun’s silver jubilee celebration at St Joseph Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary here on 7 Nov 2016.

Over 400 people including Archbishop John Wong, Archbishop Emeritus John Lee, and several local priests joined the jubilarian at his thanksgiving Mass.  His co-jubilarian, Father Boniface Kimsin, was present as well.  He will have his own celebration Nov 9 in Kuala Penyu.

Abp Wong presided over the Liturgy of the Word and the Rite of Dismissal while the jubilarian presided over the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

In his speech, the jubilarian, 56, shared how he was spared from death four times in the past 25 years.

Born in 1960, the eldest of eight children of Ason Minsir and Luhad Doris, he entered the seminary in Kuching in 1984 after working for m0re than four years.  He was ordained priest on 6 Nov 1991 at St Peter Claver Ranau.

In the course of his priestly ministry, he had served in Tambunan (1991-1992), Sandakan (1992-1993), Ranau/Telupid (1993-1996)  before taking up biblical theology in Rome (1996-1998).  On his return from Rome, he took up his master’s in accountancy and finance management (PJJ) from 1998-2002.  After his studies, he served in Papar/Limbahau (2001-2006), Ranau/Telupid (2006-2014) and Kiulu since 1 Oct 2014.  In 2015, he obtained his online doctorate on human resource management.

After Mass, all adjourned to the parish hall for a simple reception wherein the people were entertained by song and dance performances by various groups/communities.
