KK SOCCOM to organise practical journalism training for Catholic writers

ruben-sarioKOTA KINABALU – The Social Communications Commission (SOCCOM) of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese will be organising a two-day journalism training workshop on Dec 10-11.

Catholics in the archdiocese wanting to learn more about some aspects of journalism, including basic newswriting and photography will have the opportunity to do so.

Ruben Sario, organising chairman of the training programme, said the workshop is open to officials of commissions and other groups of parishes in the archdiocese.

“We are organising this workshop with the aim of upgrading their writing skills so that they can be in a better position to contribute news articles and photographs to Catholic Sabah, a bi-monthly publication of our church in the state and to other media outlets,” he said.

The venue will be at Stella Maris Church Tanjung Aru.

Sario said the workshop would be facilitated by various SOCCOM members including its chairman Datuk  Joseph Leong.

Aside from newswriting and photography, other topics covered are interviewing techniques and practical steps to be taken  in giving coverage for newsworthy activities of commissions and at parish level.

Sario  requested those wishing to attend to register early as the number of participants is limited.  Deadline for registration is Saturday 26 November 2016.
