Pope Francis appoints Fr Julian Leow as KL archbishop

Fr Julian LeowVATICAN RADIO/CS,  Jul 3 – The Holy Father appointed Rev Julian Leow Beng Su Kim of Kuala Lumpur, Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, currently Dean of Studies and Trainer Major Seminary in Penang.

The Rev Julian Leow Beng Kim, was born January 3, 1964 in Seremban, Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.

After his primary and secondary studies and before entering seminary, he studied at the New South Wales University of Sydney, Australia, earning a bachelor’s degree in Building. After finishing his studies, he worked in Sydney and then in Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Singapore, in charge of various buildings.

In 1994 he entered College General Major Seminary in Penang for his priesthood formation studies in philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on April 20, 2002 for the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur.  After his ordination Fr Julian served as vicar of two parishes.

In 2004, he was sent to Taiwan for a six-month course of Mandarin language.

From 2007 to 2010, he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome where he received a Bachelor Degree and a License in Church History.

Upon completion of these studies and returning to Malaysia, he was appointed professor and formator, assuming the office of Dean of Studies and Trainer at the College General Major Seminary, Penang.

He held various ministries:  Archdiocesan assistant youth director, director of the propaedeutic year and the Archdiocesan vocation director.

The Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur is vacant since December 13, 2013, after the resignation of Archbishop Murphy Nicholas Xavier Pakiam for reasons of age.
