Youths find identity in living the Catholic faith

SONY DSCKOTA KINABALU – Archdiocesan Youth Pastoral Team (AYPT) is instrumental in providing faith building activities for young people every year. Having organized the previous Emmaus Camp for teenagers last November, once again AYPT organized Emmaus Camp for youths for the sixth time, at CSG Centre Jan 11-24. The faith building camp was participated by 34 school leaver youths aged 18-20 years old from 11 different parishes around Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese.

Participant shares humbling experiences at Manila papal Mass

mg2I still remember right after the Papal Mass, my friend asked me whether it’s a worthwhile experience. I admitted to him that I have some disappointments, but with a heavy heart, agreed that it is a worthwhile experience. I was disappointed at many different aspects, just because they didn’t meet up to my expectation.

But as I shared my disappointment with my family, they reminded me of how blessed I was even just by being there since many desire to be in my place at that time. Even for the next few days, we were constantly reminded of how blessed we are to be one of the ground-breaking 6 million faithful participating in a once-in-a-lifetime event.

420 attend Hari Warga Kampus-16

DSC_1135KOTA KINABALU – Four hundred and twenty campus students from 8 campuses across Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese converged for the Hari Warga Kampus 16 (HWK16) held Oct 22 at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The event was organized by Sabah Catholic Student Council (SCSC) and Campus Ministry Office (CMO) of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese.

Sandakan to hold Youth Leaders’ Camp-4 in Telupid

IMG_8783TELUPID – The Diocesan Youth Leaders’ Camp (YLC) is a yearly program initiated by the Diocesan Youth Apostolate (DYA) to cater to the needs of youth leaders from across the Diocese of Sandakan.

YLC-I was held at St Mary’s Cathedral Sandakan from Feb 2-6, 2012, YLC-2 was at Holy Trinity Tawau from Jan 23-27, 2013 and YLC-3 at St Dominic Lahad Datu from Feb 5-9, 2014. YLC-4 is scheduled to be held from 25th Feb 25-Mar 12015 at St Martin Telupid.

Tawau holds Youth Leaders’ Camp at Bombalai

gybpTAWAU – The Youth ministers from the Diocesan Youth Office (DYO) together with the youths from Holy Trinity Church (HTC), Tawau visited St Thomas Chapel, Bombalai, about 30 KM from Tawau town on Oct 11. 30 youths gathered at the Chapel for the Youth Leaders’ Camp (YLC) Club. Sandakan youths visit Cheshire Home

unnamedSANDAKAN – Twelve catholic youths from St Mark Mile 12 and St Peter Sg Manila visit Cheshire Home Sandakan Oct 4 for their charity outreach, while at the same time making a study tour of the institution.

The charity visit was a  response to the challenge to reach out to the less fortunate, given in the Unite Camp held at St Mary’s Cathedral last September themed “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy” (Matt 5:7).

SRK Sacred Heart wins 2014 MASMO competition

02Masmo Champs-1KOTA KINABALU (CS) – SRK Sacred Heart has done the state and nation proud by becoming the National Best Team champion for the 2014 Level 2 Science competition of Malaysia Asean Science & Maths Olympiad (MASMO).

The school also won the silver team award for Standard 6 Mathematics of MASMO, making it the best primary school team overall in Malaysia for both these subjects.

YLC Clubs meet in Lahad Datu and Telupid in September

St Gabriel Tungku, Lahad DatuSANDAKAN – Thirty  youths from Tungku, Felda and Kunak participated the YLC Club  13-14 Sep 2014 at St Gabriel Tungku, Lahad Datu, while 20 youths from Telupid attended the YLC Club at St Martin’s Church, Telupid on Sep 27-28.

Youth Leaders’ Camp (YLC), designed for youth leaders in the Diocese of Sandakan, is usually held in the early part of the year.

A follow-up program called YLC Club, held twice a year, is meant for youth leaders who have attended previous YLC to meet up, listen and to share their experiences during their journey as youth leaders in the church.

Stella Maris organises Youth Evanglising Youth 2

2014-09-28 12.06.06TANJUNG ARU – Last year Stella Maris Parish launched for the first time a programme entitled ‘Youth Evanglising Youth’.

The objective of the Youth Evangelizing Youth programme is to let ‘youth evangelise youth’ and taking to heart the words of Pope Francis in his homily at WYD Rio Jul29, 2013 “the best instrument to evangelise young people is other young people”.
