Sandakan to hold Youth Leaders’ Camp-4 in Telupid

IMG_8783TELUPID – The Diocesan Youth Leaders’ Camp (YLC) is a yearly program initiated by the Diocesan Youth Apostolate (DYA) to cater to the needs of youth leaders from across the Diocese of Sandakan.

YLC-I was held at St Mary’s Cathedral Sandakan from Feb 2-6, 2012, YLC-2 was at Holy Trinity Tawau from Jan 23-27, 2013 and YLC-3 at St Dominic Lahad Datu from Feb 5-9, 2014. YLC-4 is scheduled to be held from 25th Feb 25-Mar 12015 at St Martin Telupid.

Tawau holds Youth Leaders’ Camp at Bombalai

gybpTAWAU – The Youth ministers from the Diocesan Youth Office (DYO) together with the youths from Holy Trinity Church (HTC), Tawau visited St Thomas Chapel, Bombalai, about 30 KM from Tawau town on Oct 11. 30 youths gathered at the Chapel for the Youth Leaders’ Camp (YLC) Club. CLOW Tawau organises rosary workshop for childdren

rosary workshop1TAWAU – Passing on our faith to the next generation needs commitment and perseverance. Children deserve to receive the fundamentals and the basics of their faith especially through their parents.

The facilitators of the Children’s Liturgy of Holy Trinity Parish Tawau organized a one-day Rosary Workshop for children aged 10 years and above on Sep 16, which was attended by 30 students, English Sunday School teachers and parents.

The workshop aimed to help students in deepening their faith about Mother Mary through the knowledge of the Holy Rosary.

Sandakan prelate calls on the faithful to build up community through BECs

kasi tunjuk cdLAHAD DATU – Addressing the faithful at the Eucharistic Celebration for the 7th Sandakan Diocesan Anniversary at St Dominic’s Church, Bishop Julius Gitom told the people of faith to adopt a change of attitude towards neighbors in order to build up the community through BECs in line with the diocesan pastoral thrust.

“Do your best to produce fruits for His Kingdom, and when we celebrate the 8th Diocesan Day next year, we could confidently say that we have in fact done our best for His Kingdom,” said the prelate.

YLC Clubs meet in Lahad Datu and Telupid in September

St Gabriel Tungku, Lahad DatuSANDAKAN – Thirty  youths from Tungku, Felda and Kunak participated the YLC Club  13-14 Sep 2014 at St Gabriel Tungku, Lahad Datu, while 20 youths from Telupid attended the YLC Club at St Martin’s Church, Telupid on Sep 27-28.

Youth Leaders’ Camp (YLC), designed for youth leaders in the Diocese of Sandakan, is usually held in the early part of the year.

A follow-up program called YLC Club, held twice a year, is meant for youth leaders who have attended previous YLC to meet up, listen and to share their experiences during their journey as youth leaders in the church.

UMS seniors organise welcoming event for freshies

The Juniors UMSSANDAKAN – On Sunday, 21 Sep 2014, 50 Christian students who have just enrolled into University Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Sandakan gathered for a welcoming event ~ ‘welcoming the juniors to the campus’ organised by the seniors.

Apart from extending our arms to welcome them, the program is also an assurance that they are not alone in the campus. They will have “brothers and sisters In Christ” (BASIC) to journey with them throughout their campus life in Sandakan.

Tawau hosts 100th World Migrants and Refugees Day

multiracial komuniti katolik malaysiaTAWAU – Tawau hosted the 100th World Day for Migrants and Refugees, themed ‘Towards a Better World’ at Diocesan level Sep 27-28.

The celebration began with a fellowship dinner after the Sunset Mass Sep 27.

Msgr Nicholas Ong, on behalf of Bishop Julius Gitom, graced the occasion. More than 500 faithful attended the event. Present for the occasion were representatives of the Parish Human Development Committee from St Mary’s Cathedral, Sandakan and St Dominic’s Church, Lahad Datu.

St Mark’s multi-purpose hall to be extended

SANDAKAN – Bishop Julius Gitom signed the contract with Terusan Enterprise, who has successfully bidded for the extension of St Mark’s Multi-Purpose Hall, at St Mary’s Cathedral Parish Conference Room Sep 12, and extended his appreciation to those who had initiated the extension, especially John Pang who was instrumental to spearhead the project. He expressed his full confidence in the Building Committee and the contractor that they would ensure the project to be completed as scheduled.

Tawau English praesidium celebrates 50 years of existence

TAWAU – One hundred members of the LOM ( Legion of Mary ) of the three main languages (BM, Chinese and English) gathered to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Legion of Mary – English Praesidium known as “Mother of Divine Grace” on Saturday, Sep 6 at the parish canteen.

The Golden Anniversary dinner fellowship took place in the evening after a half-day recollection conducted in the morning, facilitated by Patrick Benjamin, the Vice-President, Comittium of Kota Kinabalu.

SYCC celebrates 30th anniversary

SANDAKAN – The Star of Yahweh Covenant Community (SYCC) celebrated their 30th anniversary at a popular restaurant Aug 30.

Gregory Quadra, the MC for the event, recalled the formation of SYCC, formalized on August 19, 1984 and launched by the late Ray Stewart and his wife, Anna, of the Emmanuel Covenant Community based in Brisbane, Australia.
