Sandakan Diocesan Education Commission meets

IMG_9669LAHAD DATU – Members of the Diocesan Education Commission convened at St Dominic’s Church for their second meeting and formation session for 2014 on 29th and 30th November.

The meeting touched on five main items: Proposed Constitution, Roles and Functions, Instrument of Governance, Constitution for Alumni in Mission Schools, and Government Grants (Federal and State).

The formation session covered on areas of the ethos, special character, and traditions of Christian Mission Schools. The SBOGs must endeavor to preserve and maintain the identity of mission schools at all times as mission schools are a valuable asset to the nation. All stakeholders: parents, staff and SBOGs, are to collaborate to ensure the continuance of such traditions to be upheld so that mission schools may continue to succeed in the field of education, for the development of the nation.

As part of the program, commission members visited St Dominic’s Primary and Secondary Schools, which are situated next to St Dominic’s Church.

Both schools have maximized the usage of the limited land area of some 2.8 acres. Many new structures were put in place in recent years to benefit the students and staff of both schools.

On hand to brief the members were Puan Wong, the Principal of the Secondary School and Puan Seow, Headmistress of the Primary School. – DOSPO, DS
