KOTA KINABALU – There is a general consensus that many of the young people today seem to be confused with who they are and in discovering their purpose in life. And many times, we find our security in the comfort of the world, only to discover that these are temporal gain, only to find ourselves feeling trapped with the emptiness that fills us after indulging in worldly pleasures, and only to feel unsatisfied with the instant, temporary pleasures that we thought could mask our brokenness inside.
What sustains them coming to Sunday School for 12 years every Sunday except during school break, is their joyful experience of encountering Jesus in their lessons and related activities, in their relationships with the teachers, and with their peers. It also speaks of their parents’ faithfulness in sending their children year in year out to make sure that their children grow up with their faith firm and well rooted.
KOTA KINABALU – Four hundred and twenty campus students from 8 campuses across Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese converged for the Hari Warga Kampus 16 (HWK16) held Oct 22 at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. The event was organized by Sabah Catholic Student Council (SCSC) and Campus Ministry Office (CMO) of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese.
KOTA KINABALU – Social Communications Committee (SOCCOM), Sacred Heart Cathedral organized a half-day workshop for all pastoral groups under the Sacred Heart Parish at Sacred Heart parish hall Oct 21 to enhance the role of SOCCOM in the parish, as well as to encourage all groups to utilize social media as a way to communicate and evangelize. 100 people attended the workshop, including Archbishop John Wong, Fr Rhobby Mojolou, Deacon Abel Madisang, and other religious sisters.
KOTA KINABALU: The leader of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu, Archbishop John Wong, reminded the parishioners of St Simon Catholic Church Likas to contribute their God-given talents to the Church on its 30th anniversary celebration on Oct 26.
The event, which also marked the Church’s sixth year as a parish, was concelebrated with its rector Fr Cosmas Lee.
LAHAD DATU – Ten members of the Diocesan Social Communication Commission (DSCC) convened for the second meeting and formation session Oct 18-19 at St Dominic’s Church, Lahad Datu. Representation came from St Mary’s Cathedral Sandakan, Holy Trinity Church Tawau, St Dominic’s Church, Lahad Datu and the Diocesan Pastoral Office.
INANAM – St Catherine Liturgical Committee organized a half-day formation seminar at the St Catherine’s Church Inanam Oct 18 with a record turnout of 260 participants from Good Shepherd Menggatal and St Catherine Inanam.
This formation seminar is organized on a yearly basis for those parishioners who are involved in the Liturgical Ministry such as catechists, communion ministers, altar boys & girls, lectors, choirs, collectors and in the Hospitality Ministry.
SANDAKAN – A four-member delegation led by Bishop Julius Dusin Gitom, Bishop of Sandakan Diocese made a courtesy call on YB Datuk Teo Chee Kang, Minister of Special Tasks in the Chief Minister’s Department at the latter’s office in Kota Kinabalu Oct 1.
Accompanying the bishop for the visit were Henry Wong, Chairman of the Sandakan Diocesan Finance Council, Anthony Wong and Francis Tan, the Executive Secretary of the Sandakan Diocesan Pastoral Centre.
KOTA KINABALU – A two-day seminar on the Social Teachings of the Church was held at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre Oct 17-18, organized by the Archdiocesan Human Development Commission. It was facilitated by La Salle Brother Anthony Rogers. About 59 persons from St Simon Church Likas, Sacred Heart and CMI attended the seminar which also encompassed reflections on Pope Francis’ “Joy of the Gospel”.
KOTA KINABALU – In an Oct 25 meeting called by Archbishop John Wong with all Principals and Guru Besar of all Mission Schools under the Archdiocese, it has, for the first time in its history, resolved to form a Committee of Principals and Guru Besar in response to the call of the Federation of Council of Christian Mission Schools (FCCMSM) who urges each Church authority to do so.
