Penampang DMA launches Evangelization Tour “Jelajah 2020”
PENAMPANG – Divine Mercy Apostolates (DMA) under Penampang Parish, which is a member community of the Penampang Lay Association Movement (LAM), launches its first-ever initiative “Evangelization Tour 2020” (Jelajah 2020) Jan 7. The tour will journey through parish pre-arranged destinations over a period of six months.
The launching was marked with Mass and commissioning, which was presided by parish priest Fr Wilfred Atin and concelebrated by Archdiocesan DMA spiritual advisor, Fr Abel Madisang, St Anthony Tenom parish priest Fr Ronnie Luni, and assistant priest Fr Gilbert Marcus here at St Michael’s Church.
‘Go and serve with full commitment and according to Divine Mercy devotion. Avoid any elements of selfglorifying or competition with other community groups that may go along the way’…advised Fr Atin in his sermon.
The parish emphasizes that all apostolates under Penampang LAM should not only focus on their community practices and devotions, but also to remember that the ultimate goal and purpose of evangelization/outreach mission is to unite all God’s people with His gift of love and salvation.
After Mass, all adjourned to a fellowship meal, speeches and slide shows of past activities for the purpose of conveying information for the upcoming activity.
Penampang DMA head Liza Stephen said that the journey would stretch up to June, and would be conducted in partnership with various DMA outreach teams. Programs would include seminars and talks.
The entire “Evangelization Tour” is targeting to complete before the Feast of Divine Mercy on April 19, culminating with the main celebration at Divine Mercy Church, Maang, Penampang.
The highlight of Jelajah 2020 would be a two-day seminar scheduled on Jun 19-20 2020, with the expected attendance of priest from Indonesia, in collaboration with Archdiocesan DMA.
Meanwhile the parish is in the process of integrating all lay movements so that they can work together with the same purpose and mission, an example is the Life in the Spirit Seminars (LSS) and prayer meetings.
Penampang LAM conprises the following active community groups namely: Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR), Couple for Christ (CFC), Legion of Mary (LOM), Divine Mercy Apostolates (DMA) and EMMAUS (ECCC).
Towards this realization, the parish has recently initiated a monthly centralized prayer meeting on rotation basis, beginning 10 January, which saw a huge turnout at PPC Hall, St Michael’s Church. The prayer meeting, led by the CCR, was well attended by members from all the other groups. – SOCCOM Penampang
