One of the performances at St Joseph Papar, 22 Jan 2017, marking Catechetical Sunday.

PAPAR – Catechetical Sunday – 22 Jan 2017 – kick-started catechism classes for children and youth of St Joseph Parish here with Jesus Our Joy as its theme.

In his homily, Father Thomas Yip highlighted the importance of joy in Christ despite the various challenges confronting the teachers in passing on the faith to the students as well as to their families at home.

After the homily, 61 teachers took their pledge to serve for a year before Father Thomas Yip their pastor who accepted their renewal and gave them his blessing.

After the Mass, all adjourned to the parish hall for lunch and were entertained by stage performances from the students.

The parish reported a total number of 576 registered students and 61 teachers for the year.  Providentially they can now be accommodated at the recently completed Mother of Mercy Catechetical Centre and covered open square.

Papar Parish comprises St Joseph in the town itself, Kelatuan, Dambai/Lakut, Kimanis, and Bongawan.  The Catholic population has also increased significantly which necessitated the construction of the catechetical centre for catechism classes last year. – William C Mindus, SOCCOM Papar-Limbahau
