RCSC members meet in Penang

IMG-20150617-WA0042PENANG – The Regional Commission of Social Communication (RCSC) held its 16th annual meeting at the Stella Maris Retreat Center in Penang from  June 15-18, 2015. The meeting conducted its study day on Jun 16 and elected new office bearers for 2015-2017. The meeting concentrated on business matters on Jun 17.

The Opening Mass on Jun 16 was presided by Bishop Francis Sebastian of Penang, and concelebrated by Bishop Cornelius Sim of Brunei, Fr Clarence Devadass of Kuala Lumpur, Fr Robert Leong of Brunei and Fr Thomas Madanan of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu.

Deacon Sherman Quek and his group The Splendour Project took up the entire study day with a seminar on Videography focusing on images, the language of the youth today. It was observed that in order to reach out to the youth the church has to reach out in a language that is current and common to them. Due to the rains in the afternoon the group was unable to go outside for the “practical” of shooting images for discussion.

Following lunch Brother Pius and his assistant Beatrex demonstrated how Live Streaming is done. Brother Pius encouraged those who may be interested to venture into the technology. The cost may be modest; depending on how good one is at scouting for the gadgets that would serve one’s purpose.

The meeting discussed the previous minutes and representatives presented their reports on media and communication work at diocesan level, training, and World Communications Day celebrations. An RCSC joint project was discussed as well as a Google Circle meeting sometime early 2016 to discuss WCD. Signis Project Applications were also discussed, among other matters.
