SHC neophytes and confirmands gather for fellowship night
KOTA KINABALU – Two hundred and thirty-seven neophytes and 267 confirmands from the Sacred Heart Cathedral came, clothed in white garments, for a Fellowship Night at the Sacred Heart Parish Centre on 24 May 2015 to celebrate the milestone of their becoming part of the Catholic Church.
Before gathering for the fellowship, they were first gathered at Mass celebrated by Archbishop John Wong together with the priests of Sacred Heart Cathedral. The fellowship was graced by Archbishop himself accompanied by Emeritus Archbishop John Lee. Also present in support were priests and seminarian of the cathedral, godparents, family members and parishioners of the cathedral.
During the hearty meal and fellowship with each other, Archbishop John Wong expressed his hope and prayer to the newest members of the Church that they would bring their God-given faith to wherever they go, and not just exercising it inside the church. He also thanked the godparents for responding to the call of being godparents to them, asking them to continue to guide their godchildren through good examples. As the day also coincided with Pentecost Sunday, the Archbishop reminded the faithful to realize that we always need the guidance of the Holy Spirit to sustain our daily lives, for without Him we would easily fall into the temptation of sins.
Dr Damien Lee, chairman of the Sacred Heart PPC welcomed the neophytes and the confirmands and called them to be actively involved with the church’s activities through the many existing ministries in the cathedral. – Linda Edward
