600 attend SPC Kuching’s Thanksgiving Mass

DSC_3294KUCHING St Peter’s College held its annual Thanksgiving Mass for the Friends of St Peter’s at St Joseph’s Cathedral, Kuching on 3 Nov 2014.

During the Thanksgiving Mass, which was well attended by about 600 friends of St Peter’s College, Bishop Cornelius Piong of Keningau Diocese installed 12 First Year Theologians to the Ministry of Lector and two Second Year Theologians to the Ministry of Acolyte.

With these installations, the lectors will be proclaiming the Word of God and preparing the daily liturgy, while the acolytes are tasked to assist at the altar, to distribute Holy Communion during Mass and also to attend to the sick and infirmed. The event serves as an important milestone in the life of the seminarians as they advance nearer to the priesthood.

After the Mass, the Friends of St Peter’s College were invited to dine together at the College. They were entertained by the seminarians with songs and dances.

The College Rector, Fr Nicholas Ng in his welcoming speech, thanked the benefactors for their generous contributions in kind, prayers and friendship.  Bishop Cornelius Piong later gave out the certificates to the newly installed Lectors and Acolytes.

Concurrently there are 41 seminarians from all the nine archdioceses and dioceses in Malaysia studying at the Major Seminary. (Adapted from Today’s Catholic)
