I congratulate you for your courage to take up this great responsibility as Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur.  This can only come from your humility to submit yourself into the hands of God.

Your gentleness and kindness towards the vulnerable, your approachability to the strong-headed, your firmness in your decisions and in showing direction augur well for the Church.

Assuring you of my constant support and collaboration, I look forward to working with you in the Bishops’ Conference, while at the same time looking up to you for leadership among the Malaysian Bishops, being the Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, our nation’s capital city.

Thank you for saying ‘yes’ to shepherd the people of God of Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese and congratulations for your courage.

For me your ‘yes’ is a confirmation of my faith in Christ who has assured us that He will be with us till the end of time. (Mat. 28:20). His love and life-giving presence is incarnated.

In shepherding we face challenges both from within and without. But if the Lord calls, He will not only send us, He will surely sustain us.

In the light of the current scenario in the nation, with the erosion of the spirit of tolerance in accommodating cultural, social, racial and religious diversity by certain groups, we are placed at a ‘critical crossroads.’

Your elevation as the Chief Shepherd of Kuala Lumpur comes with a difficult and enormous task ahead to propel the people under your charge to help build a united and prosperous nation that we dearly cherish.

As Your Grace embarks on your pastoral priorities, we pray that you will be filled with His strength, wisdom and courage to face whatever adversity that may come your way.

Welcome to the College of Bishops and as Shepherds in our particular churches, let us take note of Pope Francis’ call to ‘intensify the missionary mandate of our Church, so that the Gospel may penetrate the depths of the human hearts and reach other nations.’
