KIAU NULUH – The presence of the CAC (Catholic Archdiocesan Centre) staff together with Archbishop John Wong in Kg Kiau Nuluh Jun 26 has boosted the villagers’ faith in God in the aftermath of the recent Ranau earthquake. Some 100 villagers gathered at the chapel as early as 9.00 am although they were told that the CAC team would only arrive at 11.30 am. Fr Michael Modoit, parish priest of St Pius X Bundu Tuhan was with them.
KOTA KINABALU – Ranau parish distributed bottled water donations to all without exception in the aftermath of the 5 June 2015 earthquake.
That the bottled water donations would be forthcoming was a foregone conclusion. After all, Sabahans of all faiths are known to come together to help their fellow brethren in times of need.
But how the people at St Peter Claver Church would distribute the water in Ranau – having experienced dry taps for almost five days due to the water treatment plants being closed down – was another. But Fr Nicholas and team performed wonderfully.
KOTA KINABALU – The Royal Ambassadors of the Light of Jesus Christ Covenant Community organised a three-day Holy Spirit Day Camp themed “Heart of Jesus” as part of the Sacred Heart Cathedral Parish Feast Day celebrations.
MIRI – The Pontifical Mission Societies’ (PMS) directors of each diocese from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei met and held their annual meeting in Miri from Jun 15-17. With them was the Episcopal President for New Evangelization, Archbishop John Wong of Kota Kinabalu Archdiocese.
SANDAKAN – Stanley William Mataking, 29, was accepted and ordained a deacon before hundreds who came to witness this joyous occasion at St Mary’s Cathedral on 24 Jun 2015.
“As deacon you are to help the priests and the bishop in the ministry of the word, of the altar and in charity showing yourself to be servant of all. With the help of God, you are to go about all these duties in such a way that you will be recognized as a disciple of Jesus who came not to be served, but to serve. You are a minister of Jesus Christ and you are to serve like the disciples and to do the will of God. Serve the people with love and joy.”
RANAU (CS) – The Franciscan Sisters, led by Mother Superior, Mother Grace Deosing, visited the affected families of the deceased mountain guides on 10 Jun 2015 to be in solidarity with them.
KUALA PENYU – Five hundred and sixty-three youths from the whole Diocese of Keningau gathered at St Peter Bundu, Kuala Penyu for their 4th Diocesan Youth Camp June 2-6. The youth assembled believing that He who is risen has gathered them to journey together in one faith. The camp took the same theme as the World Youth Day’s, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God” (Mat 5:8).
