Pilgrims of Hope

What the theme “Pilgrims of Hope” of the Jubilee Year2024-2025 means to me:

POPE Francis in his announcement of the Jubilee Year 2024-2025 says the theme “Pilgrims of Hope” suggests that we should walk & be always on the move.

Indeed, we need to move and move forward. His Holy Father urges us not to stand still but be actively moving ahead.

Our whole life on earth is a Pilgrimage, walking continually towards God, away from our sinful state towards holiness.

The Pope expresses the wish that we all find the opportunity during the Jubilee to be renewed in hope.

He suggests that we renew, rebuild & regenerate faith, hope & love in our life, in the troubled world that we live in.

As followers of Jesus, we are called to be the light, salt & leaven of the earth, hence be a shining example of Hope.

I recall that during the Jubilee Year 2000, I went on a pilgrimage on foot with a partner, all the way from the petrol station at Sabindo after the Lok Kawi military camp, to St. Patrick’s Church, Kinuta, Papar. (Cf. Catholic Sabah, Volume XXXIII No.12, December 2000, PPH22/12/2000)

May God inspire us to undertake a similar Pilgrimage this Jubilee Year to help us better understand we are “Pilgrims of Hope” on earth.
