MaristBrothers

The Marist Brothers is an international community of Catholic Religious Institute of Brothers. In 1817, St. Marcellin Champagnat, a priest from France, founded the Marist Brothers, with the goal of educating young people, especially those most neglected.  This explains the letters FMS after their name which stand for Frates Maristae a Scholis or Marist Brothers of the Schools.  The Brothers in Malaysia belong to the Singapore-Malaysia-Hong Kong-China Province.  The first Brothers arrived in China in 1891, in Singapore in 1949, and in Malaysia in 1956.  The Catholic High School Petaling Jaya was founded by Br Philippe Wu in 1956.  On 25 May 2015, they came to Kota Kinabalu as a result of an agreement between the Provincial and the Ordinary to help out in the campus ministry in St Simon Educational Complex Likas (January 2016).  Their convent is in Kingfisher Park Likas.  The first three members of the Sabah community were Br Thomas Chin (Malaysian), Br Demosthenes Calabria (Filipino) and Br Anthony Choi (Korean).  Their residence was blessed by Abp John Wong on 2 Jan 2016, the 199th foundation anniversary of their congregation in France, in the presence of Provincial Br Robert Teoh and Fr Cosmas Lee, parish priest of St Simon Likas.
