David_LewisDavid Lewis was born in 1616 in Monmouthshire and brought up as a Protestant.  After studying law at the Middle Temple London, he became a Catholic and studied for the priesthood at the Venerable English College Rome.  After ordination he joined the Jesuits and in 1646 was sent on the English mission, basing himself at the Cwm, Llanrothal on the Welsh border.  After thirty-one years of discreet ministry, he was arrested during the hysteria of the ‘Popish Plot’ and was hanged, drawn and quartered at Usk in 1679. – CTS New Daily Roman Missal 2012, p 2950
