john eudesJohn Eudes was born in the Norman village of Ri France in 1601.  He joined the Oratory in Paris and was ordained in 1625.  He went on to found the Congregation of Jesus and Mary (Eudists) and the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Refuge, dedicated to improving priestly formation and to encouraging morally endangered women to lead Christian lives.  He also fostered great devotion to the hearts of Jesus and Mary.  He died in 1680.  He was canonised in 1925. – CTS New Daily Roman Missal 2012, p 2925; Christian Prayer 1990, p 1205
