The idea of building a home for senior citizens was first mooted by the late Bishop Simon Fung. It was his dream to provide and create a place where the senior citizens can enjoy peace and solitude in their remaining years. He conveyed this idea to Mother M Xavier Chin, then superior general of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception. In due time, through the effort of many generous donors and benefactors, the Home for the Aged was materialised at Kg Purak Papar. Bishop John Lee officiated its opening on 22 November 1987 with Sr Joan Neubronner (in charge), Mother Bernadette Amandus and Sr Stella Chin as the pioneer sisters.
