Datuk Datuk, Datin Datin, Franciscans, Friends from Media, Ladies and Gentlemen.

A very good morning to you.

First of all, I want to thank the organisers for inviting me as the Guest of Honour to this “Franciscans Get Together and Book Launch.” When I was invited, I asked Leena what this function is all about.

She informed me that they are gathering the members of the school’s Management Board, Building Committee, Parents-Teachers Association and Franciscans together for the purpose of getting everyone’s help in raising much needed funds to build this long-awaited school. I thought that this is indeed a good cause and I will certainly extend my full support to the building committee.

I know that the committee has worked hard over the past 1½ years to get this new school building project started and I am told that if all goes well piling works can start before the end of the year. And this is thanks to the dedication of the building committee members for their persistence in pursuing all that is necessary and overcoming many hurdles to get things done.

They have briefed me that they are short of funds, RM8 million to complete the school building and are trying to get more people to help in raising the much needed funds.

I sincerely urge all of you to help in donating generously, or help to look for kind donors for the school building funds. I am sure you all are willing to help to make this new school building a reality.

To all Franciscans, I am certain that the school had played an important role in building a strong foundation of knowledge before you progressed successfully into the career world. This is a good opportunity for you to give back what you have benefitted.

To those who have pledged today, I wish to thank all of you for your generosity and I am equally confident that there are many others who will follow your exemplary gesture.

Maureen Wong Chin Lan is a good example. Donating all the proceeds from 1,000 copies of her books to the school building fund is indeed a generous donation. You are never too old or too young to help, it is the willing heart that will get things done.

Bear in mind, your donations and support are helping to plant that all-important seed of hope for the future.

With that I conclude my speech, thank you and have a blessed weekend.
