Congratulations! Secular Carmelites of Malaysia in the celebration of your 5th National Congress in March 2013 here in Kota Kinabalu. You have put in a lot of hard work in organising the congress and its related matters. I am happy to say a few words in this souvenir book.
The contemplative nature and prayer discipline of the Carmelite charism are acknowledged and admired throughout the Church. In particular, Carmelite saints and doctors of the universal Church continue to inspire holiness and promote mission in the Church at large and in your secular communities throughout Malaysia and beyond. In the preface of your OCDS Constitutions (2003), Secular Carmelites are called to “be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
The Church is in the midst of celebrating the Year of Faith throughout the world. Some of your community activities could include participation in local parish and diocesan events. It is essential therefore that Secular Carmelite communities work closely with their respective parishes and dioceses so that the Year of Faith would be fruitful in its various New Evangelisation programmes.
In this joyous celebration of your 5th National Congress, I pray with you for the guidance of the Holy Spirit in your congress proceedings. I wish that all the participants will have a successful convention and continue to be of service to the local Church.
Sincerely in Christ.
Most Rev John Wong
