She was the daughter of a pagan aristocrat named Clement. A convert to Christianity, she was driven from her family’s home because of her faith, and lived as a poor, prayerful shepherdess. Imprisoned, tortured and martyred when she refused an arranged marriage to the Roman proconsul Olybrius. She died by having her throat cut in 286 at Autun France.
