Bernardine was born in 1380 in the Republic of Siena Italy. He entered the Friars Minor and, after being ordained to the priesthood, travelled throughout Italy preaching with great success. He increased devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus and fostered learning and discipline in the Order. He also wrote theological treatises.
