Peter was born in 380 in Imola in Emilia Italy. He entered the priesthood there. He was elected bishop of Ravenna in 433. He remained close to the imperial family, with whom he is depicted in a mosaic at Ravenna, and was called Chrysologus or “Golden Worded” by the Empress Galla Placidia. He is best remembered for his eloquent homilies as well as his battles against heresy. He died around the year 450.
