peter chrysologusPeter was born in 380 in Imola in Emilia Italy.  He entered the priesthood there.  He was elected bishop of Ravenna in 433.  He remained close to the imperial family, with whom he is depicted in a mosaic at Ravenna, and was called Chrysologus or “Golden Worded” by the Empress Galla Placidia.  He is best remembered for his eloquent homilies as well as his battles against heresy.  He died around the year 450.  He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1729. – CTS New Daily Roman Missal 2012, p 2862; Christian Prayer 1990, p 1180
