chair of st peterThe celebration of the Cathedra Petri, the Chair of Peter, recalls the ministry conferred by Christ on Simon Peter (Mt 16:13-19) and continued in an unbroken line down to the present pope.  It is an opportunity for the faithful to renew their communion with the Roman Pontiff and to follow closely his teachings.  The feast has been celebrated at Rome  since the fourth century as a sign of the unity of the Church founded upon that apostle. – CTS New Daily Roman Missal 2012, p 2575; Christian Prayer, Saint Paul Publications Philippines 1990, p 1085.
