Germanus was born 378. He was Bishop of Auxerre France. He had close associations with the British Church and visited in 429 and 447 to assist in the fight against the Pelagian heresy. During one of his visits he helped the Britons defeat the Picts and Saxons in battle. Since it was around Easter this was known as the “Alleluia Victory.” As a thanksgiving he made a pilgrimage to the shrine of St Alban. He is traditionally remembered as a monastic founder in Wales. He died in 448. – CTS New Daily Roman Missal 2012, p 2875
